The picturesque campus sits on 122 beautifully manicured acres. A center-piece to the campus features a water fountain visible from three adjoining offices, which was in dire need of restoration. Twelve years old, the fountain had become generally unsightly in appearance and was plagued by numerous cracks and leaks. Its unsightly appearance was not what JCPenney wanted its employees to enjoy each day, so they turned to AquaTek in the hopes of returning their fountain to a site worthy of its placement.
AquaTek used a combination of AQUAFIN products on the fountain. Preparing the substrate for the application was no easy task. AquaTek spent three weeks shotblasting, scraping and grinding, to remove an old existing epoxy coating. First, the soil side walls of the fountain were coated with AQUAFIN-1K, to prevent hydrostatic pressure from damaging the flexible coating AQUAFIN-2K/M. To ensure a watertight seal, all joints and cracks were detailed with JOINTSEALING TAPE-2000-S. The entire fountain then received two coats of AQUAFIN-2K/M, the bottom coat in gray and the topcoat in powder blue. The application concluded with a top coat of ADICOR-SB04 in Azure Blue, which provides a smooth decorative surface and additional protection for the 2K/M.
The work which AquaTek did on the JC Penney fountain restored it back to the beautiful centerpiece it was originally intended to be. Employees can now sit outside during their lunch breaks and enjoy the picturesque surroundings of their campus, highlighted by the fountain. JC Penney is very pleased with results from the service and workmanship provided by AquaTek and the AQUAFIN products.
