Swimming Pool & Deck Rehab
An in-ground concrete pool was in dire need of restoration after many seasons of use. The owners turned to the AQUAFIN-POOL and DECORFLEX systems to not only refinish the old pool, but to also give the surrounding pool deck a new look.
The pool had an existing plaster finish which had to be repaired. The weak and spalling plaster was removed and patched with the waterproof repair mortar - MORTAR-LN. After the patching was done the pool was coated with AQUAFIN-1K to provide a protective base coat against negative side hydrostatic pressure, which can build-up whenever the pool is emptied. Once the AQUAFIN-1K cured the top coat AQUAFIN-2K/M was applied using the INOMAT-M8 peristaltic pump. The AQUAFIN-2K/M was pigmented royal blue to enhance the look of the pool when it is filled. The owner also had custom tiles set into the pool, adding to the decorative aspect.
The surrounding pool deck was concrete, poured many years ago, which just didn't look very "pretty" anymore. The owners wanted a high end look, without shelling out the high end dollars for installing tile or new stamped concrete. Since the concrete was still structurally sound there was no need to remove it, and thereby eliminating the mess, noise and cost that comes with it. The DECORFLEX system was the perfect solution. Using the DECORFLEX-HD and DECORFLEX-R the contractor was able to resurface the entire pool deck and create a beautiful faux-flagstone finish. The 4x4-Mesh was embedded into the base coat to provide extra reinforcment against cracking as the existing deck was old and showed some spider cracking on the surface. The top coat of the DECORFLEX system was stained to create a natural look and the owners were able to pick the color scheme and finished pattern. The entire surface was then sealed to provide protection and an easier to clean surface.
This pool and surrounding deck are now ready to be enjoyed for many years to come!
