Product Description: ELASTOSEAL-5000 is a unique single component, cold fluid applied, high performing, elastomeric, urethane and polyurea membrane that uses water as a catalyst. It is designed to function as a specialty waterproofing membrane for podium decks under pedestal set roof pavers and for the interior waterproofing of large outdoor planters. All data are averages of several tests under laboratory conditions. In practice climatic variations such as temperature, humidity, and porosity of substrate may affect these values.
Substrate Preparation: • All concrete substrates must be strong, solid, stable, and of load bearing capacity. • Areas designated to receive repairs must remain structurally sound and stable during demolition and surface preparation work, and these conditions must continue throughout the course of the repair work. Any areas of concern or uncertainty should be discussed immediately with the site Superintendent and brought to the attention of the Engineer of record. • Concrete and CMU block substrates must be clean and free from all potential bond breakers such as loose sand, dirt, dust, efflorescence and mineral deposits, cement laitance, grease, oil, previous coatings, paint, sealers, water repellants, curing compounds, form release agents, etc. Mechanically clean the substrate to remove any bond-inhibiting substances and/or contaminants that could interfere with adhesion. • Concrete must be a minimum 5 days old or have reached a minimum 2,500 psi (17 MPa) compressive strength, to be treated with ELASTOSEAL-5000. ELASTOSEAL-5000 • On elevated concrete decks, all drains must be unclogged and working properly. • For best results, all exterior horizontal surfaces should be sloped according to industry standards to facilitate water removal. All water should drain and/or evaporate within 48 hours. • All concrete and CMU block surfaces should be free from voids, bug holes, honey combs, ridges, or low spots that are more than 1/4” (6 mm) in depth. • E LASTOSEAL-5000 can be applied up to 1/4“ (6mm) thick to correct minor low spots and to increase slope in order to facilitate water removal in small areas [up to 4 ft2 (0.37 m2)]. • CMU (concrete masonry unit) block walls must be at least 10 days old to be treated with ELASTOSEAL-5000. • Repair any loose CMU block units. • Following repairs, all concrete must be mechanically prepared to a concrete surface profile (CSP) 3 – 4 per the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) Guideline No. 310-2R-2013. Steel shot blasting, and hydro blasting (high pressure water-blasting at > 5,000 psi) are the preferred methods. Acid etching is not allowed, broom finish on new concrete as a substitute for mechanical preparation is not acceptable. Burn off any reinforcing fibers and vacuum remains. • After mechanical preparation, check the porosity of the concrete surface using the water drop test method (ASTM F3191). Beading water drops signal a non-absorptive condition. Additional profiling will be necessary until the water drop test verifies an absorptive, porous concrete surface. If additional profiling does not remedy the non-absorptive condition, contact Aquafin Technical Department. • After mechanical preparation, perform job site mock-ups and bond tests (peel and adhesion tests) prior to the application of ELASTOSEAL-5000 on concrete surfaces. • If the bond test does not show satisfactory results, the use of PRO-Tekt SP (Sealant Primer) or VAPORTIGHT COAT® SG2 will be required prior to the application of ELASTOSEAL-5000. Refer to the current PRO-Tekt SP (Sealant Primer) or VAPORTIGHT COAT® SG2 Technical Data Sheet for all application instructions, including surface preparation, and other important information. • The surface of PRO-Tekt SP (Sealant Primer) or VAPORTIGHT COAT® SG2 must be clean and dry prior to application of ELASTOSEAL-5000. • If a primer is not used, all concrete (and CMU block surfaces) must be clean and dry prior to the application of ELASTOSEAL-5000. NOTES: It is the applicator’s responsibility to test and determine if ELASTOSEAL-5000 can be applied directly over solid concrete surfaces without the use of a recommended Aquafin primer. Primers are generally not required over CMU block surfaces. In addition to general surface preparation requirements listed above, the following supplementary guidance is also provided: •H orizontal Structural Concrete Repairs: • Use MORTAR-40 CI, MORTAR-Screed CI, Pavemend DOTLine, or Pavemend SL. SL •H orizontal Resurfacing, Re-Sloping, and Non-Structural Concrete Repairs: • Use MORTAR-QuickPatch or MORTAR-Screed CI.. •V ertical Structural Concrete Repairs: •U se MORTAR-40 CI (spray-apply or form & pour) •V ertical Resurfacing and Non-Structural Concrete Repairs: •U se MORTAR-V/O CI to repair non-leaking, static cracks, fill in surface voids (bug holes), and perform repairs. •C MU Block Walls: •U se MORTAR-V/O CI to fill in any missing mortar in the mortar
joints and create a flush, even surface. Plug Active Water Leaks • If water is accumulating from an active leak(s) through cracks or joints in masonry walls, concrete walls, or concrete floors, Aquafin recommends the process of injection grouting as a first step in stopping water intrusion. For more information about Aquafin’s extensive line of Injection Grouts, contact your local Aquafin Representative. Concrete Moisture Testing: Aquafin recommends moisture testing of all concrete slabs prior to application of ELASTOSEAL-5000. However, moisture testing is only a guideline and can be influenced by environmental factors. • E xterior Concrete Slabs: To obtain an approximate measurement of the moisture in exterior concrete slabs, Aquafin recommends using a combination of in-situ RH content (%) testing and surface MC (%) testing and then comparing the results. Mitigate Moisture Vapor • If there is evidence of a moisture vapor issue(s) in existing concrete, Aquafin recommends the application of a topical epoxy vapor barrier prior to the application of ELASTOSEAL-5000. • For more information about Aquafin’s VAPORTIGHT COAT®-SG products visit: www.vaportightcoat.com or contact your local Aquafin Representative. Remediate Oil and Grease: • Trace amounts of oil, grease, or similar substances, must be thoroughly degreased using a cleaner that is appropriate for the substrate. • Follow all written instructions for the cleaner and completely remove all residue left from the cleaning process. • If the concrete slab has the appearance of oil or grease contamination, Aquafin recommends the application of a topical epoxy oil barrier coating prior to the application of ELASTOSEAL-5000. • For more information about Aquafin’s VAPORTIGHT COAT®-SG2 visit: www.vaportightcoat.com or contact your local Aquafin Representative. Cracks and Joints: • Control Joints, Expansion Joints, Active (dynamic) Cracks, and Static (non-moving) Cracks: • Treat control joints, expansion joints, active (dynamic) cracks, and static cracks according to project specifications. • If a sealant is specified, as your local Aquafin Representative about PRO-Tekt Caulk and PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant products. Refer to the current PRO-Tekt Caulk or PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant Technical Data Sheet for all application instructions, including surface preparation, and other important information. • Static (non-moving) Cracks up to 1/16” (1.5 mm) wide can be pretreated using ELASTOSEAL-5000: •A pply a stripe coat of ELASTOSEAL-5000 at a minimum 35 - 37 mils DFT (dry film thickness) over the cracks. See chart on page 4 for coverage and guidance for WFT (wet film thickness). • E xtend ELASTOSEAL-5000 over cracks by at least 1” on all sides. •A llow to cure for at least 4 hours. • Static (non-moving) Cracks from 1/16” (1.5 mm) to 1/8” (3 mm) wide can be chased and repaired:

ELASTOSEAL-5000 • R out out static (non-moving) cracks to a U-shaped configuration, approx. ¾” to 1” (19 mm to 25 mm) wide and approx. 1” to 2” (25 mm to 51 mm) deep. • R emove all dirt and debris from routed cracks with a brush or with compressed air. • F lush cracks clean with water. • F ill prepared cracks with MORTAR-QuickPatch (horizontal cracks) or MORTAR-V/O (vertical cracks). Jobsite Preparation: • Protect areas not to be treated from ELASTOSEAL-5000. Cured ELASTOSEAL-5000 can only be removed mechanically. •O nly proceed with application when ambient and surface temperatures are between 50°F (10°C) to 100°F (38°C) and falling and more than 6°F (3°C) above the dew point. • Only proceed with application when ambient humidity is minimum of 40% and maximum of 75%. • Installation should be done in late afternoon or evening hours. •D o not apply ELASTOSEAL-5000 when temperatures are expected to fall below 50°F (10°C) within 48 hours after placement. •D o not apply ELASTOSEAL-5000 to frozen or frost covered concrete surfaces. •D o not apply ELASTOSEAL-5000 if humidity is at or above 80%. • Do not apply ELASTOSEAL-5000 when rain is expected within 24 hours after placement [based on 75°F (24°C) and 50% relative humidity]. •H ot surfaces should be cooled and shaded while cold surfaces should be heated and sheltered. • Do not apply ELASTOSEAL-5000 in direct sunlight. Protect mixing and application area from direct sunlight and wind. Provide artificial shade and wind breaks when needed. Mixing: • Condition material to 70°F to 80°F (21°C to 27°C) prior to mixing and application. • Open container and mix at slow speeds (not exceeding 500 rpm) for 3 minutes to evenly distribute pigments and other ingredients that may have settled, until a homogeneous mixture is achieved. Thoroughly scrape sides of pail as material is mixed. • The ratio is 1:20 (1 part water to 20 parts ELASTOSEAL-5000). • Use a scientific measuring container and accurately measure out 25.5 oz. (0.75 L) of water. • The temperature of the water should be approx. 75ºF (24ºC). • Add the pre-measured water to the 4 gallons of ELASTOSEAL-5000 contained in the unit. • Mix at slow speeds (not exceeding 500 rpm) for at least 3 minutes, until a homogeneous mixture is achieved. Thoroughly scrape sides of pail as material is mixed. • Use caution not to whip air into the material as this may result in pinhole blisters and/or shortened pot life. Do not mix in an up and down motion. • Apply product immediately after mixing. • Once mixed with water, the working time is approx. 20 minutes based on 75ºF (24ºC) and 50% RH. Application: Read all instructions thoroughly prior to installation. • Always apply ELASTOSEAL-5000 over clean, dry surfaces. • Aquafin recommends the use of a squeegee, a notched squeegee, or a notched trowel for application. A brush, phenolic resin core roller, or an airless sprayer can be used, but extra care should be taken to avoid trapping air which may result in bubbles. • F irst Coat: Apply the first coat of ELASTOSEAL-5000 in a monolithic application at a maximum rate of 21 ft²/gallon (0.5 m² /Liter) to achieve a minimum of 70 (± 2) mils DFT (dry film thickness) per coat. ELASTOSEAL-5000 must be a uniformly thick, void-free, continuous membrane across the entire surface of the applicaton area. Inspect the surface for damage. Any surface damage on the first coat must be repaired prior to the application of the second coat. Allow to cure for at least 4 hours and pay close attention to recoat times. •S econd Coat (optional): Apply the second coat of ELASTOSEAL-5000 within 48 hours after the first coat in a monolithic application at a maximum rate of 21 ft²/gallon (0.5 m² /Liter) to achieve a minimum of 70 (± 2) mils DFT (dry film thickness) per coat. ELASTOSEAL-5000 must be a uniformly thick, void-free, continuous membrane across the entire surface of the applicaton area. Allow to cure for at least 4 hours. Note: See chart on page 4 for coverage and guidance for WFT (wet film thickness). Curing: •A llow ELASTOSEAL-5000 to cure for at least 4 hours between first and second coats [based on 75°F (24°C) and 50% relative humidity]. • If recoat window is missed (if more than 48 hours has passed after the first coat of ELASTOSEAL-5000), it is necessary to clean the surface and then follow with an application of PRO-Tekt SP (Sealant Primer) before proceeding with the next coat of ELASTOSEAL-5000. Notes: Curing times, working times, and drying times are approximate and will vary depending on ambient (air) temperature, mix water temperature, the temperature of ELASTOSEAL-5000 in the packaging, surface temperature of host concrete, host concrete profile, and the application thickness. High temperatures, and high humidity will shorten the curing time and working time. Low temperatures and low humidity will extend the curing time. Protection: • Keep ELASTOSEAL-5000 protected from damage by work and other trades as well as from exposure to direct sunlight. • Keep ELASTOSEAL-5000 covered/shaded and install protection board, geotextile drainage composite, backfill, pedestal paver system, etc. as soon as possible. Limitations: • Do not dilute or thin product under any circumstance. • Do not use ELASTOSEAL-5000 in swimming pools, waterfalls for swimming pools, hot tubs, fountains, and similar water features. • Do not use on swimming pool decks. • Do not use ELASTOSEAL-5000 in any submerged areas. Ensure that there is proper drainage in all areas where ELASTOSEAL-5000 is used. For water-holding/water containment applications, ask your local Aquafin representative about AQUAFIN-1K and AQUAFIN-2K/M products. • Do not apply ELASTOSEAL-5000 over the following substrates and conditions: below grade concrete floor slabs, on grade concrete floor slabs, split concrete slabs with buried membranes, sandwich slabs with insulation, slabs over unvented metal pans, magnesite, or lightweight concrete. Contact Aquafin Technical Department with questions. • Once containers have been opened, mix and use material as soon as possible. • ELASTOSEAL-5000 is very sensitive to heat and moisture. Consult Aquafin Technical Department when mixing or placing outside of the temperature recommendations listed. • ELASTOSEAL-5000 is not designed to be an aesthetic product. Product will fade over time. • The physical properties of ELASTOSEAL-5000 are not UV stable. ELASTOSEAL-5000 • Applications on exterior foundation walls must be followed with protection board and must be backfilled. • ELASTOSEAL-5000 is not abrasion resistant and it cannot be used as a wear surface. • Projects and applications in areas not listed on this Technical Data Sheet require pre-approval from Aquafin Technical Department prior to application of ELASTOSEAL-5000 in order to qualify for any type of warranty. Contact Aquafin Technical Department or your local Aquafin Representative for assistance. • E LASTOSEAL-5000 should be applied to the entire floor and/or wall surface(s) in order to perform effectively. It is not designed to be applied in a small limited treatment area (such as application only over joints and cracks). • E LASTOSEAL-5000 is not designed for use as a pedestrian traffic coating or a vehicle traffic coating or as a base coat for these systems. • For applications in areas that will receive foot traffic without an application of pavers, contact your local Aquafin Representative about Aquafin Pedestrian Traffic Coatings. • For applications in areas that will receive vehicle traffic, ask your local Aquafin Representative about Aquafin Vehicle Traffic Coatings. • E LASTOSEAL-5000 is not a replacement for proper repairs on damaged, deteriorated, or cracked concrete or masonry structures. • If structural repairs are needed, consult a licensed Engineer and ask an Aquafin Representative about Aquafin structural concrete repair products such as MORTAR-40 CI, MORTAR-Screed CI, Pavemend DOTLine, and Pavemend SL. Storage: Keep containers closed, store in a cool, dry, indoor location away from heat, direct sun, sparks, open flame, and moisture and protect material from freezing.
Clean-up: Promptly wash hands with baby oil. Clean tools and equipment with Mineral Spirits immediately after use. Cured material must be removed mechanically. Soaking tools in a solvent-based cleaner will help when mechanical removal is necessary.
LIMITED WARRANTY: AQUAFIN, INC. warrants this product for a period of one year from the date of installation to be manufactured free of defects and to be consistent with its technical properties as stated in our current Technical Data Sheet. This product must be used as directed and within its stated shelf life. AQUAFIN INC. will replace or at our discretion refund the purchase price of any product, excluding cost of labor, which is proven to be defective. Our product recommendations are based on industry standards and testing procedures. It is the buyer’s obligation to test the suitability of the product for an intended use prior to using it. We assume no warranties written, expressed, or implied as to any specific methods of application or use of the product. We do not guarantee compatibility of Aquafin products with other brands. For this reason, we strongly recommend application of a sample area at the jobsite to help determine suitability with other products. AQUAFIN INC. Note: Proper application is the sole responsibility of the user. Applicators are expected to follow ICRI and ACI guidelines as well as other applicable industry standards. Aquafin personnel or representatives are not site inspectors or construction project managers and therefore do not approve surface preparation, mixing, or application of Aquafin products. Site visits by Aquafin personnel or representatives are solely for the purpose of making technical recommendations, not for providing supervision or quality control.
