Product Description: MORTAR-IC is a cementitious, ready-mixed waterproof repairing and sealing mortar that is designed to be used in conjunction with AQUAFIN®IC (IntegraCoat). It consists of rapid setting Portland cement, specially treated quartz sand, and a compound of active chemicals which resist positive or negative side water pressure. MORTAR-IC contains active waterproofing chemicals which react with moisture and free lime in the mortar and concrete, creating insoluble crystalline complexes. These crystalline complexes, similar to a gel which grows in the presence of water, block the capillaries of the MORTARIC and minor shrinkage cracks, thus preventing water ingress. Chemical activation begins when the MORTAR-IC powder is mixed with water and may take several days to completely block the capillaries depending on ambient temperature and environmental conditions. The waterproofing chemicals remain active for the life of the structure, permanently sealing it from water penetration. Typical Applications: MORTAR-IC is highly recommended for filling reglets, holes, and routed cracks, creating coves, and for minor patching prior to the application of AQUAFIN®-IC (IntegraCoat). • Applied to the positive or negative water pressure side of a structure • Resists strong hydrostatic pressure • Post sealing effect of shrinkage cracks up to 1/64” (0.4mm) together with AQUAFIN®-IC (IntegraCoat) • Easy to use - needs only to be mixed with water prior to application • Not a vapor barrier, lets concrete “breathe” • Ideal for filling bugholes and repairing small areas of spalled and honeycombed concrete • Applied to moist concrete • No odor - no fumes, inorganic - no polymers Substrate Preparation: • All substrates must be strong, solid, stable, and of load bearing capacity. • New concrete must be at least 5 days old, or concrete must have reached a minimum 2,500 psi (17.2 MPa) compressive strength. • Areas designated to receive repairs must remain structurally sound and stable during demolition and surface preparation work, and these conditions must continue throughout the course of the repair work. Any areas of concern or uncertainty should be discussed immediately with the site Superintendent and brought to the attention of the Engineer of record. • If water is accumulating from an active leak(s) through cracks or joints in concrete walls, or concrete floors, Aquafin recommends the process of injection grouting as a first step in stopping severe water intrusion. For more information about Aquafin’s extensive line of Injection Grouts, contact your local Aquafin Representative. • Leaking cracks and other minor leaks (with little to no water accumulation) can be plugged using MORTAR-PLUG-IC. Refer to the current MORTAR-PLUG-IC Technical Data Sheet for preparation instructions and other important information.

MORTAR-IC • Mechanically remove all loose and deteriorated concrete by suitable means such as chipping hammer, chisel, steel shotblast, high pressure water blast (hydroblast) at greater than 5,000 psi, or similar methods. Refer to ICRI Guideline 310.1R-2008. • Substrates must be clean and free from all potential bond breakers such as sand, dirt, dust, efflorescence and mineral deposits, grease, oil, previous coatings, paint, sealers, water repellants, curing compounds, form release agents, etc. Mechanically clean the substrate to remove any bond-inhibiting substances and/or contaminants. • Mechanically prepare concrete surfaces to achieve a surface profile equal to CSP 5 - 7 as per ICRI Guideline No. 310.2R-13. Shot blasting, and hydroblasting (high pressure water blasting at > 5,000 psi) are the preferred methods. • Properly clean mechanically profiled area(s) by hydroblasting (water blasting) or thorough pressure washing. • Pre-water (thoroughly soak) the substrate extremely well with clean water. Pay particular attention to concrete substrates with excessive absorption or applications during hot/windy conditions. • All surfaces must be saturated surface dry (SSD), which is damp but with no standing water, immediately prior to the application of MORTAR-IC. In addition to general surface preparation requirements listed above, the following supplementary guidance is also provided: • Non-leaking S tatic Cracks Exceeding 0.02” (0.4 mm): • R out out static (non-moving) cracks to a U-shaped configuration, approx. ¾” to 1” (19 mm to 25 mm) wide and approx. 1” to 2” (25 mm to 51 mm) deep. • R emove all dirt and debris from routed cracks with a brush or with compressed air. • F lush cracks clean with water. •D rilled Injection Grouting Holes and Tie Holes: • R emove dirt and debris from drilled holes and tie holes with a cylindrical bristle brush. • F lush holes clean with water. •R eglets: • Cut a ¾” to 1½” (19 mm to 38 mm) deep by approx. 1” (25 mm) high horizontal groove into the concrete wall. • Remove all dirt and debris from prepared reglets with a brush or with compressed air. • Flush reglets clean with water. Jobsite Conditions & Preparation: •H ot surfaces should be cooled and shaded while cold surfaces should be heated and sheltered. •O nly proceed with application when ambient and surface temperatures are above 40°F (4°C) and below 90°F (32°C). •D o not apply MORTAR-IC when temperatures are expected to fall below 40°F (4°C) within 24 hours after placement. •D o not apply MORTAR-IC to frozen or frost covered concrete surfaces. • Do not apply MORTAR-IC when rain is expected within 6 hours after placement. • When applying MORTAR-IC in temperatures at or above 85°F (29°C), follow ACI hot-weather application guidelines to ensure a successful installation. Mixing Instructions: Read all instructions thoroughly prior to mixing and application. • Precondition MORTAR-IC to ~70°F (21°C) prior to mixing.
• Use an accurate measuring container and always carefully measure the water amounts. For Each:

• Add the appropriate amount of potable water into a clean mixing bucket. Start with lowest water amount per mixing ratio. • Gradually add powder 1/3 at a time while mixing continuously. • For best results, mechanically mix at slow speed with a ¾” (19 mm) drill and “Jiffy” mixing paddle. Use a paddle type mortar mixer for large jobs. • Mix at slow speeds to prevent entraining air for a minimum of 3 minutes or until a lump-free consistency is achieved. • Add remaining amount of water, a little at a time, up to the highest water amount per mixing ratio if needed for workability. DO NOT OVERWATER! If too much water is added, the mixture tends to segregate resulting in uneven surface strengths. Surfaces with reduced strength must be removed mechanically. • Only mix as much material as can be used within 30 minutes. Application Instructions: • Always apply MORTAR-IC over damp, SSD substrates. •M inor Horizontal Patching: [up to 4 ft2 (0.37 m2) on tank bottoms and elevator pit floors] • Apply AQUAFIN®-IC (IntegraCoat) as a slurry bond coat using a masonry brush. • While the bond coat is still fresh/wet, pour MORTAR-IC in one working cycle at 3/8” to 1/2” (10 mm to 13 mm) per lift over horizontal surfaces, then compact and strike off. Note: When horizontal repairs are needed on areas larger than 4 ft2 (0.37 m2), ask an Aquafin Representative about MORTAR-40 CI repair mortar. •M inor Vertical Patching: [up to 4 ft2 (0.37 m2)] • Apply AQUAFIN®-IC (IntegraCoat) as a slurry bond coat using a masonry brush. •W hile the bond coat is still fresh/wet, perform minor concrete patching from featheredge to 1/2” (0 mm to 13 mm) thick per lift with MORTAR-IC and create a flush, even surface. • If multiple lifts are required, finish MORTAR-IC with a rough texture while still fresh in order to facilitate the bond for the next layer. Allow to cure until set (approx. 1 to 2 hours). Repeat the process; dampen the surface of the underlying application of MORTAR-IC, apply a slurry bond coat of AQUAFIN®-IC (IntegraCoat), and perform repairs from featheredge to 1/2” (0 mm to 13 mm) thick. Note: When vertical repairs are needed on areas larger than 4 ft2 (0.37 m2), ask an Aquafin Representative about MORTAR-V/O CI repair mortar. • Patch and Fill Routed Static Cracks, Drill Holes, Tie Holes, and Surface Voids (bug holes): • F ill prepared cracks, holes, and voids, flush to surface with MORTAR-IC. • Fill Reglet Cavities: • Apply AQUAFIN®-IC (IntegraCoat) in reglet cavity as a slurry bond coat using a small paint brush. • While the bond coat is still fresh/wet, fill prepared reglet

MORTAR-IC cavity flush to surface with MORTAR-IC. •C reate Triangular Cant/Cove in Perimeter Joint Areas and Corners: • Apply AQUAFIN®-IC (IntegraCoat) as a slurry bond coat using a small paint brush. •W hile the bond coat is still fresh/wet, use MORTAR-IC to form triangular coves 1.5” x 1.5” (38 mm x 38 mm) or 2” x 2” (51 mm x 51 mm) over perimeter joints where the concrete wall(s) meet the concrete floor, and in corners where two concrete walls meet. Refer to the current AQUAFIN®-IC (IntegraCoat) Technical Data Sheet for surface preparation instructions and other important information. Finish & Top Coating: • Surface Finish: Final layer may be troweled smooth/flat or broomed to increase non-skid quality. •C oncrete Joints: Re-establish all previously existing concrete joints within 2 hours of final set. • Top Coating with AQUAFIN®-IC (IntegraCoat): AQUAFIN®-IC should be applied as soon as MORTAR-IC has set (approx. 1 - 2 hours). If this is not practical, leave surface rough for subsequent surface treatment to bond. Pre-dampen surface of MORTAR-IC immediately before application of AQUAFIN®-IC. Curing: • Standard Application with Top Coat of AQUAFIN®-IC(IntegraCoat): • Apply AQUAFIN®-IC over MORTAR-IC while it is still green and do not damp cure MORTAR-IC. • Applications to be left exposed (without AQUAFIN®-ICas a Top Coat): • In all applications that will not receive AQUAFIN®-IC (IntegraCoat), MORTAR-IC must be damp cured for 3 days. Begin curing as soon as MORTAR-IC has set by keeping surface moist as per ACI recommendations for Portland cement concrete, using burlap, polyethylene or a fine mist of water. Clean up: Clean all tools and other equipment with water prior to the material reaching final set. Cured material must be mechanically removed. Packaging: 50 lb. (22.7 kg) bags Storage and Shelf Life: Storage: Store MORTAR-IC in unopened, original, undamaged bags in a dry enclosed area, off the ground. Shelf Life: 1 year when stored according to conditions listed above. Limitations: • Curing times and set times are approximate and will vary depending on ambient (air) temperature, mix water temperature, the temperature of MORTAR-IC dry powder in the packaging, surface temperature of host concrete, profile of the host concrete, and the application thickness. • Do not re-temper or use additional water during the finishing process. minor patching applications. • Do not use MORTAR-IC for general resurfacing or to perform patching or repairs in areas larger than 4 ft2 (0.37 m2). Use MORTAR-40 CI instead. Refer to the current MORTAR-40 CI Technical Data Sheet for more information. • Do not use MORTAR-IC in swimming pools, hot tubs, or fountains. • MORTAR-IC is not recommended for filling concrete movement joints (contraction joints, construction joints, expansion joints, isolation joints, etc.). Always re-establish movement joints when using MORTAR-IC. • MORTAR-IC is designed for solid concrete substrates only and is not recommended for application over masonry (CMU block, brick or stone rubble). • MORTAR-IC is not an aesthetic product. As the crystals begin to form, a hazy white or light gray film will gradually develop over MORTAR-IC. Variations in color uniformity will result. • MORTAR-IC is formulated to accept AQUAFIN-IC® Crystalline Waterproofing Slurry. Other coatings, paints, flooring, tile, plaster, sealers, or similar materials are not recommended over MORTAR-IC. Note: Proper application is the sole responsibility of the user. Applicators are expected to follow ICRI and ACI guidelines, common concrete practices, and other applicable industry standards. Aquafin personnel or representatives are not site inspectors or construction project managers and therefore do not approve surface preparation, mixing, or application of Aquafin products. Site visits by Aquafin personnel or representatives are solely for the purpose of making technical recommendations, not for providing supervision or quality control. General Information: All details in particular to the suggestions for the processing and use of the product is based on our present knowledge and experiences at the time of printing. Depending on specific applications, in particular regarding substrates, processing, and environmental conditions may affect final results. Safety: Refer to SDS. This product contains Portland cement and sand (crystalline silica) and is highly alkaline (irritant) in contact with water. Avoid breathing dust. May cause delayed lung injury (silicosis). Use rubber gloves and goggles during mixing and application. Protect skin and eyes. After contact with skin, wash with plenty of water. In case of eye contact, rinse immediately with plenty of cool water and seek medical advice. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. Proposition 65: This product contains material listed by the state of California as known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. LIMITED WARRANTY: AQUAFIN, INC. warrants this product for a period of one year from the date of installation to be manufactured free of defects and to be consistent with its technical properties as stated in our current Technical Data Sheet. This product must be used as directed and within its stated shelf life. AQUAFIN, INC. will replace or at our discretion refund the purchase price of any product, excluding cost of labor, which is proven to be defective. Our product recommendations are based on industry standards and testing procedures. It is the buyer’s obligation to test the suitability of the product for an intended use prior to using it.
