PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant

Product Description: PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant is a two-component, high solids, non-sag, flexible, polyurethane joint sealant. The non-sag formula makes it ideal for applications on vertical cracks and joints. PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant is also an excellent choice for horizontal crack and joint pre-treatment of concrete before the application of an Aquafin polyurethane coating system. Typical Applications: • Warehouses, loading docks, manufacturing, and industrial facilities • Bridge headers, airports, and parking garage decks Advantages: • Superb performance • Excellent flexibility • Low VOC’s Preparation: • All areas of concrete to be treated must be free from loose sand, dirt, dust, oil, grease, sealers, paint, existing coatings, and other foreign substances that could interfere with adhesion. • Concrete must be at least 28 days old and must have reached a minimum 3,000 psi (20 MPa) compressive strength. • Crack and joint edges must be at a straight 90° angle to the horizontal plane of the concrete slab. Chase all cracks to a depth of at least 2” (5.08 cm). • Joints must be cut according to ACI recommendations. • When repairing T-joints, cut joint to a depth of at least 25% of the total depth of the slab. The side of the T-joint must be cut 12” (20.4 cm) from the joint and a minimum of 2” (5.08 cm) deep. • Flush cracks and joints clean using an appropriate cleaning solution and rinse well. Use clean, oil free, compressed air to blow out any remaining dust, water, or debris prior to installation. • The inside area of all cracks and joints must be primed with PRO-Tekt SP (Sealant Primer) prior to the application of PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant. Refer to the current PRO-Tekt SP (Sealant Primer) Technical Data Sheet for all application instructions, including surface preparation, etc. • Ensure PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant is applied to primed surfaces within the required recoat times. • Primed surfaces must be completely dry and clean. All data are averages of several tests under laboratory conditions. In practice climatic variations such as temperature, humidity, and porosity of substrate may affect these values
• Substrate and ambient temperatures must be between 40°F to 135°F (4.4°C to 57°C). Mixing: Condition all components 75°F to 80°F (24°C to 27°C) prior to mixing. The volume mixing ratio is 1 part component A to 3 parts component B (1A:3B). Carefully mix each part individually and then accurately measure out the correct volumes of component A and component B before combining together. Mix for at least 5 minutes using a low speed drill with a jiffy mixing blade or paddle. Occasionally scrape the sides of the Page 1 of 2

PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant container while mixing. For best results, mix at slow speeds (300 – 500 rpm) to prevent entraining air, and continue until a homogeneous mixture is achieved. Do not mix in an up and down motion. Installation: Read all instructions thoroughly prior to installation. Apply PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant with a caulking gun, or by pouring material directly into the joint. Fill joints from the bottom up. • Control Joints: Use a closed cell backer rod in all control joints. Depth should not be more than 25% of the total slab thickness. Apply PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant over the installed backer rod. • Construction Joints: Do not use backer rod or sand. Fill all construction joints to full depth thickness with PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant. • Cracks: Fill all cracks flush with PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant. Tool and finish joints and cracks according to project drawings and specifications. Curing and Protection: Allow time for product to cure before opening to light pedestrian traffic. Cure time will vary depending on temperature and humidity. Typically, 48 hours based on 75°F (24°C) & 50% RH.
Note: Proper application is the responsibility of the user. Field visits by AQUAFIN personnel are for the purpose of making technical recommendations and not for supervising or providing quality control on-site. Packaging: 1.5 gallon kit (5.67 L) Component A: (1) 1/2 gal can [net fill 0.375 gal (1.42 L)] Component B: (1) 2 gal pail [net fill 1.125 gal (4.25 L)] Storage and Shelf Life: Shelf Life: 1 year in original unopened container. Storage: Indoors at 60°F to 90°F (15.5°C to 32°C) in dry and dark conditions. Protect from moisture. Safety: Refer to SDS. For commercial use only. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wear rubber gloves and safety goggles during mixing and application. After contact with skin, wash with plenty of water. In case of eye contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water for 15 minutes and seek medical advice. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. PLEASE NOTE: To be eligible for a warranty, cracks and joints must be primed with PRO-Tekt SP (Sealant Primer) prior to the application of PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant.
Clean-up: TOOLS & EQUIPMENT: Remove fresh/uncured material with an approved solvent. Cured material can only be removed mechanically. MATERIAL: Dispose of in accordance with local, state and federal disposal regulations. Limitations: • Do not dilute or thin product. • The physical properties of PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant are UV stable. However, discoloration will occur in direct sunlight. • Do not use PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant in submerged applications. Ensure that there is proper drainage in all areas where PRO-Tekt Joint Sealant is used. • Contact Aquafin Technical Department for use in areas not listed. • Do not mix more than can be used in 20 mins [based on 75°F (24°C) & 50% RH]. • Curing time will vary, depending on surface and air temperatures. Cold temperatures and low humidity will extend the curing time. High temperatures and high humidity will shorten the curing time. • Consult Aquafin Technical Department when mixing or placing outside of the temperature recommendations listed.
LIMITED WARRANTY: AQUAFIN, INC. warrants this product for a period of one year from the date of installation to be manufactured free of defects and to be consistent with its technical properties as stated in our current Technical Data Sheet. This product must be used as directed and within its stated shelf life. AQUAFIN INC. will replace or at our discretion refund the purchase price of any product, excluding cost of labor, which is proven to be defective. Our product recommendations are based on industry standards and testing procedures. It is the buyer’s obligation to test the suitability of the product for an intended use prior to using it. We assume no warranties written, expressed or implied as to any specific methods of application or use of the product. In addition, no warranty or guarantee is being issued with respect to appearance, color, fading, chalking, staining, shrinkage, peeling, normal wear and tear, damage caused by abuse, neglect and lack of proper maintenance, acts of nature and/or physical movement of the substrate or structural defects.
